Remodeling and Renovating Home

What the Home Improvement TV Show Taught Us

Remember that 1990's sitcom Home Improvement show with comedian Tim Allen?  While it occasionally made us laugh, it taught us much more about home remodeling and useful new tools that we couldn't live without.  Why, that show did so much for tools, that many 20 and 30-year-old contractors today owe their entire wealth to Tim Allen!  Okay, maybe not.  Nevertheless, here are a few important lessons "Tool Time" taught us.

1.DIY repairs and remodeling can be fun.

While remodeling your house will always be expensive, it doesn't have to be tedious or a chore.  Remodeling work is simply in the blood of many real estate dreamers and construction-loving workers.  They played with Legos as a kid, grew up with a Black and Decker screwdriver in hand and now they have a whole set of Craftsman power drills and Makita electronic saws.

2.It's not always as easy as you think.

Much of the humor from that Home Improvement show came as a result of careless mistakes made by Tim Taylor and other pseudo-DIY cast members.  The show featured walls caving in, drills gone crazy and occasionally electrical shock.  Maybe it was funny to you then, but by now you know the lesson learned: when it's your real life money on the line, you can't afford to make funny mistakes.

3.There are shows about home improvement on television.

Who knew?  Maybe before meeting Tim Taylor and regulars like Bob Villa on the show, you never knew there was such a thing as a DIY (do-it-yourself) remodeling show on television.  (After all, not everybody rushes home to watch and record The Learning Channel)  Well, there was such a thing in the 90's and there are even more home remodeling shows on now.  Now with the advent of satellite TV as well as digital cable networks, home improvement shows are as easy to find as the click of a button.  No more waiting a week for the wisdom of Home Improvement; now you can find expert advice (and probably a few chuckles) from many shows that cover remodeling tips and trends.

Those are three lessons that old show taught you that made you a better Do It Yourself-er.  Remember your roots and remodel your home to perfection!
